Dear St. John the Baptist Parishioner:
We’re pleased to explain our Merchant and Grocery (MAGS) Scrip fundraising program for our parish that has been in effect since September, 2007. MAGS is the fundraising program that works while you shop.
Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money.” In other words, scrip certificates are gift certificates from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including Giant Food Stores, Turkey Hill, Redner’s, Sears, JC Penney, The Gap, Exxon, Wawa, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster as well as local vendors such as Pizza Bella and Chubby's.
You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. It’s simple. Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our parish at a discount, usually 5 to 20%. You buy the certificates for full face value and then redeem them for full face value. Our parish keeps the difference as fundraising revenue.
However, the new MAGS Program will deposit 50% of the parish revenue earned into your family account to be used by you to assist with your family’s SJB School Tuition, SJB PREP Fees, SJB Sacrament Fees, SJB CYO Fees, SJB Youth Group or the SJB Scholarship Fund, the SJB Building Fund, the SJB General Parish Fund, and Our Lord’s Pantry as well as other Catholic education such as grade school, high school or college tuitions! Anyone can participate, even non-parishioners! Recruit all of your family and friends to buy scrip from our parish! There is no limit to what you can earn!
The MAGS Scrip Fundraising Program is exciting because everybody wins:

- Your family’s MAG account will earn credits for each purchase that you make to help the parish or reduce your family’s tuition and/or certain school expenses.

Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program! Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.
